WWE closed its two-night SummerSlam 2026 on Sunday, August 2, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. In the main event, Roman Reigns defeated Seth Rollins to retain the World Heavyweight Championship in a match lasting more than 40 minutes, after which the two longtime rivals bumped fists.
The weekend's biggest surprise was Kevin Owens, who returned after roughly 17 months out following neck surgery. SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis added Owens and Gunther to a planned number-one contender's bout, turning it into a Fatal Four-Way that Owens won by pinning Sami Zayn, making him the new top contender for CM Punk's Undisputed WWE Championship. Night 2 also produced several title changes: Chad Gable defeated Penta for the Intercontinental Championship, Baron Corbin beat Trick Williams for the United States Championship, and Chelsea Green won a ladder match to become Interim WWE Women's Champion.
In other news from the weekend, Paul Triple H Levesque confirmed that Brie Bella suffered a shoulder injury during Night 1, with scans pending and no full diagnosis yet. WWE now heads into Monday's post-SummerSlam Raw in Des Moines, Iowa.
