Rey Mysterio Announces Tournament to Crown Roman Reigns' Challenger for WWE Raw in Mexico City

Rey Mysterio, in his role as AAA General Manager, has announced a tournament to determine the next challenger for Roman Reigns and the World Heavyweight Championship. Mysterio revealed the plan following a backstage conversation with Reigns on this week's Monday Night Raw. The bracket will feature top luchadores from Raw, SmackDown and AAA, and the tournament is set to begin on the August 10 episode of Raw. No participants have been named yet.

The resulting title match is scheduled to headline the September 14 episode of Raw, airing live from Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City. The card marks WWE's return to television in Mexico for the first time in roughly 15 years, part of a larger week of programming that WWE says will also include SmackDown, live events and AAA Triplemania 34.

The announcement caps a busy stretch of lucha-focused wrestling news. A day earlier, AEW presented a Grand Slam Mexico edition of Dynamite from Arena Mexico, headlined by a Will Ospreay versus Mark Davis street fight, with Kyle Fletcher defending the International Championship against Speedball Mike Bailey.
